Betongpark, in collaboration with Urban Organic, designed and built the first ever skate garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024. The garden was built on behalf of Planet Good Earth, a charity that aims to introduce younger people into horticulture, sustainable methods of food production and positive mental wellbeing.
The garden is made up from central a run of 1.2x1.2m granite slabs, leading to a 3 tonne granite quarterpipe. Surrounding the skateable elements is a planted garden, full of completely edible plant species including apple trees, fruiting shrubs, herbs and mushrooms.
After the show, the garden has been relocated to Hereford skatepark, where Betongpark built a major extension in the winter of 2023. The granite quarterpipe and slabs now have a new lease of life, being used by the locals as an add-on to the existing skatepark. All the plants have also been relocated and will be used as ingredients in dishes made at the community cafe on the site of the skatepark.
